Day 61: Le Grand Finale to Geneva!

Saint-Jean-de-Sixt – Geneva 50.04km šŸš“šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø 2.26.07Ā ā±20.5km/hrĀ ā¬†ļø 245m (Suuz 360m)Ā ā¬‡ļø 810mĀ šŸŒ”26C

Spoiler alertĀ šŸšØ: we made it. We are in Geneva! We almost didnā€™t make it, when Masā€™ back gave out trying to get out of the tent this morning. It was a very confusing day and we must say, it still is. We are very excited to be here, but it sucks. We canā€™t believe we made it, but we donā€™t want it to be over yet. We are really happy to go homeĀ šŸ”, but we donā€™t want to yet.

Balkan to Baguette āœ…

So we had a very very slow start this morning. We even waited to let the soaked tentĀ ā›ŗļø dry for a bit in the morning sun. It didnā€™t rain or anything it was just damp. We ordered breadĀ šŸ„– and croissantsĀ šŸ„ at the campgroundĀ šŸ• so we ate that over a coffeeĀ ā˜•ļøand a teaĀ šŸµ (btw this tea emoji looks like itā€™s witchĀ šŸ§™šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøcraft doesnā€™t it) and then postponed our departure even more with doing everything slow paced. But after wrapping up the tent and packing the rest of the stuff to the bikes we really did had to go. Itā€™s only about 50 kilometres to Geneva and itā€™s mostly downhill so itā€™s probably not going to take a lot of time. As you can see above, and since Iā€™m writing this after we are done I can confirm, it did not take a lot of time.

So once on the bike we went down. For a long time we only went downhill. Apparently we saved up quite some meters above sea level and we needed to go down quite a lot of them. It was really cold and since Mas was only wearing a tank top and refused to go change into something warmer, she lost her other nipple too. Well what didnā€™t help was that we were cycling in the near presence of our old friend mountainĀ ā›° shade. This time we didnā€™t really need him though but polite as we are we also canā€™t really tell him off. Once we were in the sunĀ ā˜€ļø and had to deal with some small climbs it got hot fast enough. The road we took for like the first hour, hour and a half was just gorgeous. Not too busy, nice surrounding, well paved, just the way we like it.

Still in FranceĀ šŸ‡«šŸ‡· we stopped for a coffeeĀ ā˜•ļø at what was obviously a motor home bar clubhouse thing. After we waited quite a while we just went in and ordered at the bar. Not knowing we had to pick it up ourselves either. No problem of course but itā€™s easier if you put a noteĀ šŸ“ somewhere or just let us know. Anyway, after Mas lay down on the wooden bench for a while and did some exercises for her back (yes she is getting old, and yes she is obviously not a tentĀ ā›ŗļø person, and yes she does need to do her core exercises often, and no she did not do that the last two months), long sentence made short, we left.Ā

With only 20km more to go it got busier and after there was a lock downĀ šŸš§ on the road we had to take it got a little mental, but luckily it wasnā€™t too long before we took the exit to a much quieter road. Which had a rough incline of course. Our legsĀ šŸ¦µšŸ¼can definitely use a little time off. Cause of this detour we first cycled all around Geneva before we circled into town. Close to the city there were all these bike paths and bike routes we could take so traffic was not of a problem anymore. Although there were the parts were bikesĀ šŸš² and bussesĀ šŸšŒ share the same part of the road. Which is kind of ridiculous because bussesĀ šŸšŽ are our biggest enemies on the road. Once we cycled into Geneva and saw the first sign we stopped to take a picture, we have proof, we made it all the way to Geneva. Or we are just really good with photoshop.Ā

Cā€™est fini šŸ˜©

Suuz guided us to this Libanese place, Parfums de Beyrouth, to get a really tasty falafel lunch. We took the food to go and cycled to the lake and ate it on a bench overlooking the lake and the Mont Blanc šŸ”. So there we are, this was it, wrap it up and go back home šŸ”. Like we said, itā€™s a total weird mix of emotions.

Best value-for-money lunch in Geneva!
Enjoying the view of lake Geneva

After lunch we cycled to the hotelĀ šŸØ to check in and this took us more than an hour. It was absolutely ridiculous and so inefficient. But we made it to the hotel and our bikes are safely lockedĀ šŸ”’ in the parking garage of the hotel. Big question is if it takes them less than half an hour to find the keyĀ šŸ”‘ when we check out. Our hotel is located in a street where they mostly rent rooms for an hour and where every corner of the street hosts one or more ladies who are in dire need of some more clothes. We followed their example, lost our clothes and jumped in the showerĀ šŸšæ.Ā

Cheers to an amazing adventure!

A little later we got out to find ourselves a beerĀ šŸŗ and we did at this spot we didnā€™t know they had it in the GenĆØve. We went there cause there was a bicycleĀ šŸš² on the wall, how typical. It was kind of an alternative hidden place on the other side of the trainĀ šŸš‚ station that reminded us strongly of Berlin. If we werenā€™t high already from our whole trip, we definitely did some co-smoking over there. So we had a couple of beersĀ šŸ» and went to a restaurant after for a celebratory dinner and some Swiss wine.Ā

It was a good evening but we are just exhausted and jumped into bedĀ šŸ›Œ around 11 oā€™clock. Letā€™s say our street is very lively at night, but we had to open the windows to let in some air since itā€™s really hot in this room. We fell asleep anyway only to be awakened by the incredibly loud thunderstormĀ šŸŒ© right above our head.
