Lanslevillard, Tour de France day
Since the Tour organization didn’t accept us as new riders we were stuck in Lanslevillard for the day. There wasn’t really anything for us to do since we just had a restday and we recovered from our first Alp col pretty fast so it was a bit of restless day. We had breakfast together with all the people in the hostel, something Suuz really loves. Weird enough the youth hostel was filled with old people, we were by far the youngest ones there. Luckily there was no one for us to share the room with so we had all the space for ourselves. After breakfast, that wasn’t really breakfast for us, we went to the bakery and get croissants 🥐 and baguette 🥖. We had a long espresso, which is weird cause an espresso takes one gulp, so after the first and final sip we just sat there and enjoyed their wifi.
We went back to the Hostel, did some reading and weather checking and had a pick nick lunch in the backyard. Afterwards we walked up the hill across the river to wait for the cyclists 🚴♂️ of Le Tour to pass by. We planted our butts next to a Dutch family, of course. We waited for about an hour before the first group of cyclists passed by. We must admit, it’s pretty awesome! We both saw them once in Paris and Mas saw them when she was half the age she is now (omg), but it’s always impressive to see the fast fit dudes pass by on their shiny bikes. Just after they were all out of sight it started raining 🌧 so we ran down the hill, back to the hostel.
We watched the rest of the Etappe on television 📺 to check out the mountain 🏔we had planned to climb the next day. Mas cycled the Col de l’Iseran four years ago, but for Suuz it’s all new. It’s a pretty steep and tough climb, but also a beautiful one. Just after the Tour reached the top we got a good scare. They cancelled the rest of the race cause of mud slides and severe weather conditions (hail)! Mud slides?? That sounds scary. A few hours later we saw the videos of the mud slides and we can confirm, it looked scary as well. At some point we just turned off the television 📺 and tried not to look at the weather forecast too much.
We had an early dinner at the hostel and went for a short walk after, but had to rush back since it started raining again. We didn’t really do much for the rest of the evening. We decided to leave as early as sunrise 🌄 the next day since the weather is projected to get worse by the hour. At least that’s what they predicted. So we watched a show, ate some chocolate 🍫and Oreos, (our trip cookie since you can buy it in all Balkan countries as well), did some reading and went to bed 🛌. Unsure what tomorrow would bring.
Het laatste traject is wel het zwaarst maar ook het spannendst …👍😘
