After we woke up, we got dressed, packed our bags and we went downstairs for breakfast. It was simple but at least there was some bread 🍞, cheese 🧀and ham 🐷. And yoghurt, and a donut 🍩, and pre-packed toast. It was definitely not fresh, but since we generally don’t enjoy our breakfasts anyway it doesn’t really matter what you put on the table. So we stepped on the bike with our usual morning sickness and left.
After a small bit on the main road we cycled on a bike path for almost all day. We had a quick stop in Tezze to do groceries. Bought some lunch and other stuff we were out of. Suuz put on a shirt 👚since she was cold, Mas refuses to put on a second layer as long as the sun shines or temperature is predicted to be higher than twenty degrees. Actually the only reason is she hates it to wear something over sun lotion 🧴shoulders so she’d rather be a little cold.
The bike path was absolutely magnificent. Nice tarmac, the high rocky walls of the Dolomites around us and some great clouds to make the pictures just perfect and provide some shade. Still it was a little tough to get into a nice rhythm. The road was just going slightly 🆙 for a big part of the day. Together with a soft head wind 🌬it was difficult to find the right gear ⚙️. Just when us spoiled brats started to get a little bored of the long straight bike path it got more winding thus interesting. After twenty kilometres we were looking for a place to get coffee ☕️and we found bici grill. They had several places along this bike path and since we were for sure not the only ones using it this morning we were having a coffee and some apple pie 🥧together with race and electric cyclists.
The necessary break gave us good energy to continue. The path got busier and busier. Some serious groups of race cyclists 🚴🏼♀️🚴♂️passed us from the other direction giving us very little space. We don’t like groups of cyclists, or runners, or walkers or whatever kind of groups. Groups mean DANGER! Luckily we have Unagi so we are always prepared but still. Okay if you don’t know Friends you really don’t know what I am talking about now but yeah, just go and watch, it’s on Netflix.
The surrounding was so beautiful. We are extremely happy with almost all the roads we took on this trip. We love our bike app Pocket Earth 🌎, although it does send us up some insane roads sometimes. The combination with Google Maps, and some intense route checking brings us to the most beautiful places. Also some hats 🎩off to the road builders in all the countries we have cycled through, you really know where to put them!
Just before Levico it got really touristy. Lots of families on bikes sharing the path with us. Luckily we had to get off the bike path. Not so lucky for us, a big climb started right away. It was alright and we got a nice view of the lake once up.
The last bit was pretty steep, but at least we lost all the other cyclists. Temperature got close to thirty again so it was getting hot 🥵. Bit by bit we saw the city of Trento pass by in the valley down below. By then we were getting really tired, the day proved tougher and longer than we had expected. ‘Do you want to see me cry?!’ Mas shouted as yet another steep hill appeared in front of us. But Suuz couldn’t see her through the sweat stinging her eyes.
Finally we had passed Trento and made our way down some hills and across beautiful vineyards into the town of Mezzocorona. Since check in time wasn’t for another hour we crashed on a terrace for a cold lemon soda and homemade Italian gelato 🍧. After that treat we cycled to our home for the night, a cute agriturismo surrounded by vineyards.
We had dinner in the restaurant behind the agriturismo. It was really delicious and the Trento doc Chardonnay we had tasted great as well, especially because we had been cycling through these vineyards all day. As a starter, Suuz ordered a sous vide egg 🥚, deep fried in a polenta crust on a little bed of cheese 🧀 fondue and topped with truffle 👌🏻, while Mas enjoyed fresh trout marinated in berries with sun dried tomatoes and a soft avocado cream. As a main we had veal with seasonal vegetables, and fish 🐠 with hazelnuts and carrot 🥕purée. So good 😊! In the meantime Mas tried not to look at the score of Federer against Nadal 🎾since he was behind in the second set when we left. Normally Roger loses if Mas watches so by now you all know if she got to watch the end of the game or not.
One more noticeable thing about Italy 🇭🇺, at least about this part. Maybe one of our readers (Jan the religious historian?) can help us with this, but why, why are the towers of the churches ⛪️ separated from the buildings themselves? Especially in the Northeast this was the case in almost every town. If anyone knows, please contact us via social media or leave a reaction below this story. Thanks you, that’s all!
