Day 38: Sacile – Tarzo 35.58km ๐ดโโ๏ธ 2.20.56 โฑ 15.1km/hr โฌ๏ธ 325m โฌ๏ธ 130m ๐ก 25C
Since we had a short day on the bike ๐ฒ planned and wouldnโt be able to check in before 2 oโclock we had a really lazy morning at the agriturismo. We were both really tired and out of energy. Around nine we went down for breakfast to find an apology letter from the host about the dinner fiasco. We felt a little bad since she was really sorry, but yeah these things happen. Anyway, we had breakfast and discussed the animal disco ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ณ outside our room this morning. It was a real feast. At least it sounded like a feast, but maybe it was a fight, we will never know.
After a nice breakfast we packed our bags and left. The lady gave us a discount for the trouble, which was nice of course, but really not necessary. The clouds โ๏ธ above us were getting darker and darker so we were a little scared for some showers ๐ฟ and lightening, but it got sunny โ๏ธ pretty quickly. Especially Mas didnโt feel well so even though it was only a short distance it was a struggle to get there. We also had to go up some nasty little climbs which made it tough. On the other hand, the route itself was beautiful again and we cycled through cute villages so there was a lot of distraction. We had coffee โ๏ธ in Case Amadio. Suuz bought strawberries ๐ at the local market and got some bananaโs ๐ for free.
Not long after our coffee โ๏ธ break we cycled through this beautiful old village called Vittorio Veneto. We took some pictures and just cycled on since we did not feel like playing tourists.
We arrived in Tarzo around 12.30 so we still had to kill some time before we could check in and where better to kill time than in a local trattoria. The only thing was we had to cycle up this tiny and very steep road to get there, but it was worth it. Suuz has some pasta with bacon ๐ฅ and peppers, Mas had spaghetti ๐ aglio olio e pepperoncino ๐ถ and we shared a caprese . Simple, but tasty! We decided to go grocery shopping ๐ in the town of Tarzo before going to the apartment ๐ก, otherwise we had to cycle all the way up into town again later. Once we got into town we realized that everything was closed for siesta, so we would have to go all the way back again later. Bummer!
The place we are staying at is awesome. We have this house all to ourselves. The houses look really old but are renovated from the inside. Salamanders run up and down the outside walls, pretty interesting to look at.
We did laundry and took a nap after. When we went outside to cycle all the way up again to the supermarket it was raining ๐ง. We had to go so we went anyway. We crashed at a gelato ๐ง/ coffee โ๏ธ / drinks ๐น bar first and enjoyed all of the above. Once the shop opened we got groceries and cycled back so Suuz could make a nice dinner. Mas got some stupid chopping chores like always and made the couscous since this is her specialty. We had saffron lemon ๐ couscous and a nice salad. And olives. And toast with a local stinky but delicious cheese ๐ง . Afterwards we cleaned up, watched a show and went to bed ๐ for a long and good sleep.
Day 39: Tarzo restday
Some rooster ๐ woke us up supported by his army of chickens ๐ ๐. Although I think we were already awake, but just did not want to accept it yet. The nice thing was we did not have to get up so we didnโt until nine. The host Tatiana made us breakfast outside in the garden. It was a lot. A lot a lot. The women was a little disappointed we did not eat more but it was just impossible to finish it all. There were fried eggs ๐ณ, bread ๐ฅ, almond cake ๐ฐ, fresh fruits ๐, cookies, butter and jam, croissants ๐ฅ, yoghurt, a huge plate of cold cuts and cheese, fruit juice, coffee โ๏ธ and tea. She kind of forced us to take the leftovers with us for later so if all of you are still hungry, come visit, thereโs is enough for everyone!
After breakfast we did some reading and Mas cut open her finger ๐ก hanging up the laundry. Since thereโs no wifi and we want to re-plan our route to Valtelina we had to go back to yesterdayโs gelato/coffee/bar place up in Tarzo. We cycled all the way up again but at least this time it was not raining ๐ง.
We installed ourselves at the terrace of our new favorite place and sat there for hours to get the planning done โ , post stories to the website, eat ice cream ๐จ and have coffee. Planning takes forever so half of the day was gone before we went back down to the house. Temperature is really nice around 25 degrees and a little cloudy โ ๏ธ, just the way we like it! We checked the bikes, especially the brakes, but also the gearing system and the tires have our close attention. We always clean and oil the chain and cassette on a rest day so everything runs smoothly again. We will need it as the next five days involve a lot of climbing back into the mountains โฐ.
Once our chores were done we cycled down to the lake and sat there in the grass doing some reading for about an hour before we went back to the house ๐ก and planted our butts on comfy beach chairs playing a game and emptying a bottle of Prosecco. We are in the prosecco ๐ฅ area so we did not really have a choice. We also fed the house cat ๐ some canned tuna, she hardly had a voice so her miauw sounded really sad so we couldnโt resist. Okay letโs be honest, she got one left over spoon from Suuz, we ate the rest.
After we were chased away by aggressive mosquitoes we started dinner. Shrimp ๐ค tagliatelle with courgette and tomato for dinner, sided with a salad.
We went to bed ๐ early and did some more reading before we fell asleep ๐ค.
