Day 27: Taking a rest in horny Karin

Gornji Karin, rest day 😴

Exactly four weeks ago we left our beautiful house 🏡in our beloved Rotterdam to go on this bike trip. As you know we started in Athens, just underneath the Akropolis. From Athens we cycled all the way to the West, towards the coast of Greece 🇬🇷and then up north to Albania 🇦🇱, Montenegro 🇲🇪and into Croatia 🇭🇷. We are still in Croatia and will be cycling in this Balkan-country for another four days before entering our fifth country, Slovenia 🇸🇮.

Until now we are very happy with the choices we made, sometimes difficult ones. We had to make some changes to our original plan due to the heat and some small physical problems, but it worked out great. We don’t exactly enjoy our early rises 🛌, but we do love 💕what we get in return. Some cooler hours, more shady spots on the road, less traffic. We can relax in the afternoon and enjoy great swims in either the ocean 🌊or the pool 🏊🏻‍♀️. 

The countries we passed through so far are so different, but there certainly are some similarities as well:

1. Men hang out in coffee bars and have espresso, beer and the local poison for breakfast (women are nowhere to be found);
2. They all serve salad 🥗. Only in the CAM-countries it’s called mixed salad. You can also order a cucumber 🥒, a tomato 🍅 or a lettuce 🥬salad. the mixed salad is nothing more than a mix of all three. In Greece you just get Greek salad, which should just be called salad;
3. Everybody smokes 🚬. No exceptions.  And also indoors;
4. No MONO in the Balkan, the cellphone📱is glued to hands and ears in the car. While smoking. And honking. Who’s actually driving? The women seem not, we rarely see women behind the wheel;
5. Last but for sure not least. All countries are so incredibly mind- blowingly beautiful!

So we had another rest day 💤today. It was 13:30pm once we finally got out of the apartment for lunch at a local cafe. There was a kitten 🐱 and we ordered fried fishies 🐟, so Suuz fed her fish heads.

We spend a lot a lot of time looking at the route. Towards mid-July we will be meeting some very very welcome visitors in Italy 🇮🇹and want to try and make most of the time with them. It looks like we have a nice plan now of how to get there in time and still enjoy ourselves along the way. We will see how it all works out!

Besides planning we read and chilled at the beach 🏖. Suuz finished her book “Educated” and had a good cry cause it was such an intense story (really recommend reading it, it’s good!!) We decided to eat in, so we got groceries and made quesadillas 🌮and and a salad 🥗for dinner at the apartment (to avoid a sweat fest like yesterday). According to our girlfriend agreement 📝, Suuz cooked 👩🏻‍🍳and Mas folded laundry 🧺 and opened the beer 🍻. Cheers!
